Contemporary photos of the site under construction for the project in Lindau. By spring 2018, the insel hall Lindau will be fundamentally modernised and generously extended. In cooperation with Auer and Weber Architects The concept for open spaces serves for integrating the different uses on the site harmonically. An essential element is the linear design of the surfaces, covering the overall area like a carpet and highlighting the new connection between Zwanzigerstrasse and Sea-promenade by its direction. The appliance of small stone pavement for the ruling of the covering responds to the theme of the existing environmental design. The area between the ruling is paved by large-format concrete slabs on the plaza as well as immediately around the built form; it is fixed with Asphaltmastix on the Sea-promenade, linking the parts being adjacent in the East and in the West. The decent differences of the coverings in color and structure offer a differentiated and equally quiet and homogeneous appearance. The area of the plaza is deliberately kept free from furnishing the space to much, in order to maintain opportunities for different open-air-events (concerts, markets, temporary art-installations etc.). The “bastion” at the northern edge of the plaza opens up an attractive view onto the pier and the Small Lake. The existing stock of trees, and especially the double entrys of trees at Zwanzigerstrasse and alongside the Sea-promenade, are maintained and integrated into the design concept for the plaza.
