Professor Rainer Schmidt

Landscape architect and urban planner, Bavarian Chamber of Architects, Munich. In 1980 Rainer Schmidt worked in the office Gottfried Hansjakob, Munich, as project- later as office manager. In 1991 he opened landscape architecture offices in Munich and Berlin, and in 1997 another office in Bernburg/ Saale. Rainer Schmidt has been Professor of Landscape Architecture and Design at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin since 1991. He has held visiting professorships at Peking University, China, and at the University of Berkeley in California, USA. The philosophy behind the international success of the work of Rainer Schmidt Landscape Architects and Urban Planners is to make the landscape architecture of the 21st century a stimulus for reflection on the attitude of people towards each other and towards nature. The office translates these suggestions into designs, taking into account a balance of design and functions for perception and use.
